Historian of early modern Britain and Scandinavia

My name is Leif Hammer and I am a historian interested in the cultural history of the eighteenth century in the British Isles and Scandinavia.

I am also a university historian, but aside from university history, I am interested in various aspects of the Enlightenment, eighteenth-century satires, spatial and emotional history, among other things.

I also enjoy teaching on Scandinavian history more broadly.

Currently, I am writing up my doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford. My thesis is a comparative study of the universities of Oxford and Copenhagen in the eighteenth century.

I am also a Department Head for the Museums of the Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverkmusea) and the Museums for Coastal Heritage and Reconstruction in Finnmark (Museene for kystkultur og gjenreising i Finnmark). My work there involves public history, research, and curation.
